Patch Therapy
A few months ago after I noticed some misalignment in Liam's eyes, a pediatric ophthalmology confirmed that he had a common condition called Strabismus. Typically it's when one eye is out of alignment sending double images to the brain. The brain can learn to shut-off the image of the misaligned eye thus causing loss of depth perception or sight altogether. A common remedy is to patch the good eye consistently in order to strengthen the weaker eye and further it's development. The only other remedy is surgery but we'll worry about that if the time comes. The whole patching thing was rough in the beginning; Liam would get easily fatigued while wearing the patch and thus turn easily grumpy, fussy, or very p.o'd. We have a two-hour patch time minimum but try our best to aim for three hours a day. Thankfully we can split up the time so it's not such a long session at once. He now requests that his patches be artfully decorated from now on so his father and I do our best to accommodate him.
